Rediscovering Jagdalpur : A Journey Beyond Waterfalls

Rediscovering Jagdalpur : A Journey Beyond Waterfalls

I, with my family visited Jagdalpur during the month of October 2024 where we stayed for four long days including weekends!! Can you believe it ---four days to just to view a waterfall!!? My preset perspective changed when I visited the place found it to be much more than just a brief stopover. To witness the nature's fury Chitrakote Falls often named the " Niagra of India" an experience that swept me into Chhattisgarh's wild beauty, rich tribal heritage and the warmth of the region. Our stay in Jagdalpur got elevation with the resort we chose to spend few days. The resort was unified combination of comfort and tradition. Every corner seemed telling stories of region's vibrant culture and art. The walls were ornamented with murals inspired by Bastar's tribal art and wrought iron art particularly the Dokra art ( non-ferrous metal casting technique) is the antient and the most facinating metalworking  in India, known as Bastar art whose origin lies in the region. Materials like wood bamboo and clay materials were masterfully incorporated intensifying earthy yet luxurious ambience. The cozy cottages each designed to mimic the traditional huts but equipped with modern amenities added extra charm to it. The thrilling experience was driving through Keshkaal Ghati the stretched roads is as breathtaking as challenging. The serpentine curves and steep climbs were a test of patience driving amidst the unparalleled panorama was a reward to the challenge. The challenge was the curves that demanded full concentration from the person handling the steering. The steep inclines and slow motion ....I experienced  an adventure.

The star attraction of our journey was visit to Chitrakote Falls. Standing before the cascading water the sheer magnitude silenced my doubt spending so much time there. Tumbling down of water in silvery streams reminded me of Alfred Lord Tennyson's The Brooke the famous lines from the text.....

"For men may come and men may go, But I go on for ever."

The never ending journey of Chitrakote Falls!!

Illuminated by bright sun was a spectacle I could have never imagined. The lush greenery augmented the magic while refreshing mist hugged us like an old friend.  We embarked upon the local tribal villages who shared insights into their culture. The artistry in their crafts was awe-inspiring. Another marvel was Teerathgarh Waterfall which offers serene multi-tiered water fall experience. I felt like stepping into another realm entirely. The final day absorbed the raw untouched beauty of Kanger Valley National Park. The elusive wildlife kept us alert while the marching tracks challenged and equally rewarded with breathtaking vistas. It was here I fathomed Jagdalpur was gateway to a more meaning full approach towards life. An overwhelming sense of gratitude surrounded me, and four days trip taught me to take pause, to listen and immerse with myself. The trip transformed my scepticism into wonder showing in the smallest corners( of the world) abundance of magic is awaiting to be Rediscovered!!
